The Systems Furniture

May 8th, 2007

The introduction of the systems furniture became another turn in the industry of office furnitures. This marked the latest innovation that the industry was able to contribute to the modern-day office. Gone were the days where offices were similar to classrooms, having “bull pens” set up all over the office and an array of rows were only to be seen. This abolished the stiff environment of the office where everybody sits with each other having no privacy at all. Systems furniture presented a wide array of advantages that has proven to be more practical than what the office has been accustomed to. Systems furniture are easier to put in the office, and it can also be easily changed, modified, or added to quickly. In short, it is flexible enough to fit to the growing demands of the employees.

The pioneers of systems furnitures were able to create three types: the panel-based systems, the freestanding systems, and the combination of panels and freestanding furnitures. All there three were the solutions to the varying dilemmas of an office space, so that they can be easily accommodated by what the systems furnitures promises to give. The use of systems furnitures became the answer to the growing number of people in the offices, and the rise of the computers as well. With the systems furniture, the workers in the office managed to get their own sense of “privacy”, given that his workstation was all his. At the same time, it also fosters the need to bond with his co-employees because they no longer share the same big space. They have now been divided into small partitions to help them get through their everyday tasks.

Panel-based systems were able to make it greatly in the market, as they can be mostly seen in the offices until today. What is more, even after some long periods of time, the panel-based systems are still maintaining their original quality. When the office needs to change their panels, it is only because they are opting for a new look, because it is a rare occurrence to have them replaced because of damages. The freestanding systems are also preferred, but this is usually being doubted as its support system does not appear to be as integrated or complete as the support system of a panel-based system. But the freestanding systems offer more mobility than the rest, so one could just transfer it from one place to another. The last is the combination of the two, which probably works best because one can go for both options without having to sacrifice the quality of the other.
