Aside from all the traditional pieces of office furniture that you prioritize, the file cabinet is the one that needs most thought and accuracy. Aside from the other essential office furnitures, the file cabinet is the main safe that houses your important documents and records, and keeps them organized and not stacked messily on top of your office desk. There are two things to consider when it comes to choosing the right file cabinet. Despite the size, height, style and design, the make is important too. These two categories are: the vertical cabinets, and the lateral cabinets.
The vertical file cabinets, as the name suggests, are taller than the are wide. They consume only a minimal amount of space in the office and they can also be located against the wall for easy sweeping or mopping of the floor. The vertical file cabinets can hold up to five drawers and is capable in storing letter and legal-sized documents. Putting the files will be located in the front up to the back in the drawer, with files facing the user.
Bear in mind that even though vertical cabinets come in handy for long-term storage, they only work best for places that have enough walking space.
Lateral file cabinets is the other type that is being used in offices. Lateral cabinets are wider than the vertical cabinets because their length is sidelong, and they are built for high-volume capacity. They have the same storage capacity of the vertical file cabinets. The lateral file cabinets are preferred because they are efficient in filing solutions, and they can work in crowded areas. Since the lateral cabinets are shorter than the vertical ones, they can be used in spaces where a vertical file does not fit.
These are basically the two types of file cabinets that you must consider before going on to buy yourself a new one. Filing cabinets are important pieces of office furnitures because even if they do not give direct support to the employees, they hold in all the concrete results of the company’s work.
